How to execute a stored procedure with BizTalk SendPort?

I would like to call a stored procedure from SendPort. I want to avoid orchestration and instead create a subscription to the message box based on the receive port and message type. I also need to use the attributes from the received xml message as parameters for my stored procedure.

My guess is that I should use a WCF-SQL adapter. However, the only examples I found require a 20-step process and some magic / luck ... oh yes, and orchestration. Am I really crazy thinking this should be easier than it sounds? Can someone provide me with resources or tips?

Is one example that you looked at an excerpt from a book by Richard Seroter? http://www.packtpub.com/article/soa-capabilities-in-bizTalk-wcf

What you want to do can be done without orchestration.
