Should we deploy the Webkit browser for our intranet applications?

At my place of work, it is becoming increasingly difficult for us to develop IE, which has historically been the lightest browser for targeting, from the point of view of the intranet application.

  • It has already been deployed.
  • He already understood NTLM authentication, thus well integrated with our domain level security.
  • It had neat, albeit non-standard functions, such as XMLDOM and XmlHTTP.

Now we are increasingly annoyed by the problems presented by IE:

  • There are several versions: IE 7, 8 and soon 9 beta versions, which have slightly different problems related to performance, functionality (especially re: security and zones) and aesthetics.
  • IE 7 and 8 are slower than Webkit-based browsers. Period.
  • There are technological limitations such as lack of an element canvas, CSS errors, etc. that make it difficult to use third-party packages or even write code sequentially in versions of IE.
  • Users are increasingly using Firefox or Chrome, even for internal use.

Does anyone have experience transitioning to transition?

Any advice is appreciated.
