Signal processing for web programmer

What books would you recommend to a CS student, who has mainly done web programming his whole life to get signal processing? I am looking for something at the gradient level and more focused on the average (or below average) programmer.

If you want to get a free book DSP, refer to the manual for engineers, designers and engineers in the digital signal processing by Steven W. Smith, Ph. D. I found this convenient when a few years ago I interned in a national laboratory and asked to program a DSP chip to increase lock when I did not have previous DSP experience (or books available to me on this subject).
