IPad translucent status bar?

Is there any way to make the status bar translucent for the iPad. I get this error when trying to do this: UIStatusBarStyleBlackTranslucent is not available on this device.

iPad does not support a translucent status bar.

On iPad devices, the UIStatusBarStyleDefault and UIStatusBarStyleBlackTranslucent styles default to the UIStatusBarStyleBlackOpque appearance.

Apple probably believes that the screen is so large that it does not matter to give 20px (2 ~ 3% of the screen size) in the status bar.

If you set the Transparent Black Style (Alpha 0.5) value to the Status Bar Style key in the application plan, it will work at startup. Until you plan to change it later between opaque and transparent, this is a viable solution.
