GTK + application coding without window manager?

I want sth code. which basically works like a TiVo. Turn it on, you will see only the menu or exit, so the main OS or something else is not directly displayed to the user.

Therefore, I want to use Linux as a base. Can you offer a good base distribution?

  • Can I encode an interface without starting and starting the window manager?
  • If so, is this possible with java-gnome, or what combination of / gui-framework language would you suggest?
  • If not, what is the minimal window manager that can handle unusual menus, etc.?
  • What do you need to create a video overlay on top of the HD stream? Are there some libraries I should take a look at?

thank

  • Absolutely .
  • I will not rely on the fact that Gnome itself works without a window manager. Other than that ... language doesn't matter.
  • Window managers only manage windows. Menu, etc. - This is the widget’s toolkit work. In any case, Metacity.
  • ... In this I have no idea.
