Where to go with PHP?

I am an experienced PHP programmer, and I really like the way it works, and it is very nice to work with it (performance can be improved, and some functions are renamed, but not too serious).

However, I took the Java workshop, and now I'm very interested in using GWT for promotion projects, although I think the learning curve can be steep.

Do I really have to go through with this change (PHP> JAVA)? Where to begin?

Why not try Ruby or Python? This is what I have done, and I love it all. Using django for python on multiple sites.

perl is also an honest bet. it looks a bit like php, which can be a plus or minus depending on how you look at it.
