Real pagination with Next and Previous buttons

By actual pagination, I mean something like this when on page 3:

<<Previous 1 | 2 | {3} | 4 | 5 |...| 15 | Next>>

By the Next and Previous buttons, I mean something like this when on page 3:

<<previous Next>>

Performance must be sure that the previous and next buttons are better, because unlike the actual pagination, it does not require an excessive query to the database. Due to excessive database query, I want to get more information from the database than what you will need to display on the page.

My theory is that the previous and next buttons can significantly increase the site’s performance, since it only requires the exact information that you need to display on the page, please correct me if I am mistaken.

so

Do users really prefer when it comes to these two options?

is it just the preference of the developer and its convenience?

Which one do you prefer? why?

* Note. The previous and next buttons are usually marked as new or older.

When I was inexperienced, I made a website and chose Next / previous. Yesterday I had to work on this site, and this was one of the things that I thought was a beginners mistake. There should be no difference in performance, and if there is negligible compared to the disappointment of users, additional clicks are required to go through the list.

In my experience, it only depends on what the client asks me. And when I have my choice, I choose what you call the real pagination, because it is more user friendly.

<<Previous 1 | 2 | {3} | 4 | 5 |...| 15 | Next>>
