How can I update .RData?

After reading this question, I tried to clear my workspace and found that every time I opened R, all the original elements that I recently deleted were restored. Then I checked .RData and found that it has not been changed in a few weeks, although I re-saved the image of the workspace. How often is .RData updated and how can I change when .RData is updated to reflect the latest changes?

• use save.image()
• use q()and answer yes

Otherwise, it will not be changed.
