<a> html tag used for hyperlink not working in Jasper Report

Question

I want to make one sentence word a hyperlink. I wrote this as: Click on our <a href = "http://www.google.co.in"> website </a> to find out more. The text box layout property is also selected as "html". But the hyperlink is not created. Please, help.

HTML markup is for styling text fields only. You are looking for the "Hyperlink" option. However, it does not work for static text fields, but when you right-click in the text field, you should find the "Hyperlink" element in the context menu. This allows you to snap the field to an anchor, another report, or web page.

Hyperlinks are not supported by static text fields - they only work with a text field .. it worked when I used a text field and when the expression entered static text in quotation marks “click here etc.”, then add a hyperlink by selecting a hyperlink from the context menu.

The htm markup is apparently extremely limited. I just found that it works for very simple html formatting such as <i>and tags <b>. I don’t think that bindings or lists or any “bizarre” markup do anything.
