Is there a way in Visual Studio to change the space insert character?

Question

I prefer code with a visible space, and I use tabs. (there are no holy wars)

Is there a way to change the tab view from an arrow to a panel or some other character?

I already have a color set to dark gray on a black background, so it doesn't “invade” when I'm not looking for them, but the default presentation of the arrows is simply wrong. Eclipse and many other editors use panels or strings to represent tabs.
