Learning PHP: Good examples of building-based lessons?

Last summer, I learned HTML and CSS to work, mainly through tutorials and a kind of “build this” method, that is, I got the goal and should try to figure out how to build it myself. Is there a place with some examples to teach someone this method? My boss wants me to go to PHP this summer, and I need to reevaluate it over the next week.
Most people send me to Php.net to follow the documentation, is there another good method?

There is probably no source on the Internet that lists projects that intersect with both your knowledge and opportunities and areas of interest.

I was successful in realizing personal problems based on what I wanted to do. Here are my examples:

  • Simple Twitter client (one text field, transfers the text of my Twitter account
    • Skills learned : API, cURL, webforms
  • Facebook app that uploaded your tweets to a Facebook stream (and filtered some)
    • Skills learned : API, MySQL best practices (to preserve preferences), main user interface problems, scheduled tasks (cron tasks), maintaining a public timeline and grading
  • A competitive application that accepted user inputs and made a bracket that ran itself
