The installer needs platform 4.0 - but it is already installed

I created the service that I now want to install for testing. When I run the installer, I am prompted to download and install .net fw 4.0, but I have already installed it. I tried to just install the file I point to (4.0 cliet), but not only it still does not work, it calls vs2010 to give an unknown error and cannot open.

Now I deleted everything and re-launched VS2010, framework 4.0 and won 7, but still offers me to install fw 4.0 when I try to start the setup. Can someone point me in the right direction?

Thanx advance willem

Here are some ideas:

  • I assume you rebooted your machine; if not, do it and try again.
  • See this page for verification of your .NET 4.0 installation.
  • Using IE, go to http://whatsmyuseragent.com/ and make sure .NET 4.0 is shown.
  • In VS 2010, write a small console application that displays Environment.Version.ToString(). This is the version of the .NET CLR. Launch this application from outside of VS 2010 and make sure that it works as expected.
  • At the moment, the problem is most likely with the installer used to create the service. Please add more information about this.
