Failed to execute xxx server method (asp.net ajax)

I have a website project that is working fine. However, each time, certain specific ajax pages (which make calls to the web service) throw a "server method xxx failed". I have ELMAH installed but don’t see anything from stacktrace or anything else. The worst part is that I cannot reproduce the error locally. I just get an email notification from ELMAH. Does anyone know how I can fix this problem?

Edit: after 1 year, I still have the same problem.
