When can I start using project management applications?

I was wondering when the right time or the right project size will start using project management applications (like Redmine or Trac ).

I have a serious project, now it is developed only by me, but I use redmine to install my versions of the project, problems and ratings. I think this is a good idea, because you never know when someone else is going to join a team, and also allows me to organize effectively.

I ask this question because I taught at the university for one year in a row, and I often had questions about it. Although I believe in the KISS principle , I think that learning to use these tools early is a win-win most of the time.

I really believe that we can avoid this issue in order to be reasoned, and that there is some consensus on this issue, which I consider to be very important in today's world of software development.

So, when is the right time? What is the correct project / team size?
