Leaning on all windows on X11

Question

I am trying to create an arcade machine. The user will buy credits that will allow him to play for X minutes. I want to write “9:42 minutes on the left” in the left corner of the screen, even if it plays a full-screen game (for example, UrbanTerror).

I would really like it if I could do it with Ruby, but any other language is fine. Any ideas?
