Is Sharepoint always on the weekend?

For some reason, our sharepoint site is always down on Saturday. This is the strangest thing, and I cannot understand why. I am a complete noob at sharepoint and have been put up by the guy for sharepoint with my current employer.

I tried bouncing IIS on Fridays to see if there was anything I could do before hand.

Is there something that can be planned that I may not know about will cause sharepoint to decline?

Remember that I am a complete noob as a sharepoint.
