Adding firewall exceptions to other firewall products than the Windows firewall - for example, Norman, Norton, etc.

I have a WiX installation project in which I added two firewall exceptions as part of the installer using a WiX FirewallException . This works fine when the client computer uses the Windows firewall, but I have a report that the user was unable to start the solution when using the Norman Personal Firewall. Some question regarding this:

  • Will other firewalls generally comply with the rules added to the Windows firewall? If so - is it just importing or are firewalls always respecting the changes to the Windows firewall rules?
  • Is there a general way to add firewall exceptions so that all / many firewalls comply with them during installation, such as extending the firewall in WiX?
  • Using netsh will cause firewall exceptions to be added to other products than Windows Firewall?
