The best way to explain to someone is that software developers need to install tools (basically build integration) and that end users do not

I work for a software company where most people are afraid to install new tools to increase productivity. They give me excuses like:

  • I do not need to install anything else.
  • I can do it myself.
  • etc. many other unfounded arguments.

In the ecommerece business, end users do not need to install anything, everything must be managed by them from the Internet, and developers must be those who install things to improve productivity and teamwork. ie:

  • Version Control Systems
  • Build Tools (ANT, NANT, Maven, Continuous Integration, CSS Structures)
  • Integrated Development Environments
  • Framework (unit testing, etc.)
  • Etc ...

How else can I get my point without sound?

Your point of view depends on your position in the company. If you recently installed a development team manager, approve your budget and start implementation.

While you may consider the argument unfounded, try to see things from their point of view. If they hadn't done unit tests before, how should they know why they are good? The same can be used to create tools and other areas of things that others can consider as basic if they have had them for many years and years.

It seems to me that in your company there were many Mortes. A very sad situation.
