Import AutoCAD / Solidworks drawings / objects into winforms?

Has anyone done something like this?

I need to import 3D objects made either in AutoCAD or Solidworks, and draw them in the shape of a window. I only need an object for viewing in 3D and moving - no manipulations are required.

I assume that I will need at least two libraries, one for a very simple 3D engine, and one to get what I need from CAD / SW files. Autodesk has an SDK available for developing AutoCAD plugins using .NET, but I'm not sure if you can use it the other way around: uploading files to a .NET application.

Any help, links and ideas appreciated.

DXF files were a universal interop file in the CAD world, the last time I watched. They are quite easy to parse; it is a simple text format. And there is a lot of information in the file that you can simply skip and get a recognizable model of the original drawing. The R12 format was especially lightweight.

Although you really do not want to write code from scratch, if it can be avoided. Shop around, there are many programmers who have done this before. Be careful not to invent a CAD program.
