Install glass fish on ubuntu karmic using synaptics package manager

I'm trying to learn how to use perch for the first time. My IDE is insecure, and I installed the floating grid plugin for netbeans. I opened the synaptics package manager and scored a glass fish. My choices were

imqv2

Glassfish activaton

Glassfish mail

Glassfish-AppServ

Glassfish-TOPLINK Basics

Glassfish-jmac-api

Glassfish-JavaEE

I am not sure what is in each package or which package is needed. It seems that I can not find anything that will tell me anything descriptive in these packages.

I have seen many tutorials on installing glass fish, but I would prefer to use apt-get / synaptics to install glass fish so that the syntax can take care of the update.

I don't know if this is still open ... but if you know how to handle shell commands on ubuntu, then you may find it useful here: http://www.nabisoft.com/tutorials/glassfish/installing-glassfish- 311-on-ubuntu
