Should I be in awe of Groovy?

I am currently working on my project, which consists of a front and back part written in PHP and a desktop application written in Java, and that the plan was before I discovered Groovy and then Grails.

Now, after overwriting my desktop client and creating some functionality in Groovy, I am going to abandon PHP altogether in favor of Groovy (although I have not played with Grails yet.)

For me it just looks like coding in Groovy is as simple as in PHP, but with lots of extra sugar and the awesomeness of the Java libraries. Comparing the two may seem uncomfortable, but hey, I'm an amateur;)

Finally, to my question, in appearance, most of the Groovy blog articles / blog posts I can find are terribly outdated. Have I really missed some reason why it is not so popular and which will crush my enthusiasm for a bit ?: D

My answer is a strong No. Groovy is really a very productive language to work with. I spent about a year using it for my day job, and I really enjoyed working with it. IMO, Groovy suspense has nothing to do with the language itself, but other factors, such as:

  • Lack of corporate support (i.e. $$$ marketing)
  • , 1.0 2007 .
  • , "" (Scala, F #, Clojure, Groovy) mindshare. .
