"Add to Home Screen" implementation, ala Safari

Safari on iPhone has a feature that allows you to create a home screen shortcut for a web page. Is it possible for other applications to implement similar functionality? I would like to give my users a quick way to navigate to a specific item in an iPhone application.

There is no officially sanctioned way to do this. Third-party applications on the iPhone have very limited capabilities for interacting with other parts of the system. They can view the address book and photo library, and they can refer to other applications with certain arguments, but they can do nothing with the home screen.

Not sure ... but there is an application like "One Tap Dial" that does this tho
