I'm just wondering where in the Linux kernel source files I can find code that takes care of copying and pasting? I am interested in changing it, but I don’t know where to look for it.
thank
The functionality of the clipboard is not really processed by the kernel, but instead by the X Window System and the active desktop manager (Gnome, KDE).
Have a look here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Clipboard_%28software%29#X_Window_System

I suggest you read this Wikipedia article on X Window selection
