How to use SVN effectively?

Possible duplicate:
How does version control work?

I have an SVN repository that I installed on my VPS, and I know all the basics (update, commit), but I don't know what all the other options mean.

I am running TortoiseSVN on Windows (this is great!) And can see all of these features like branching, locking, merging and fixing! What does all this mean?

Is there somewhere good guidance on how all the little bits work in SVN?

Thank,

Tim

Version Control with Subversion is a good free online book to help explain these other features.
