How to write a Lightroom plugin that sets the cropping of all selected images?

I wonder if it's possible to write a Lightroom plugin that applies cropping rectangles to a set of images?

Of course, I do not just want to duplicate the crop, I would like to set different frames for each image based on some calculations.

Can this be done with Lightroom plugins, or do I need to try a different approach?
