IE7 div error

I have the following

<div id="border" style="width:100%; border:8px solid #FFF">
    <div id="menu" style="width:250px; float:left;" >
        Some menu
    </div>
    <div id="content" style="padding-left:270px; width:520px;" >
        Main page content
    </div>
</div>

This gives me a left-aligned menu and contents to the right of it, surrounded by a border.

In all browsers, including IE8, it displays correctly.

But in IE7, the content starts just below the menu and leaves a large open space to the right of the menu.

I looked for all kinds of solutions and tried all kinds of combinations on the right, on the left, not a single one for float. cleaning left right both. It is always displayed on different browsers.

Any help is appreciated. Michael

Delete the registration on your div and set it to the left.

You may have to put <div style="clear: left"></div>after it
