Client server communications and resilience interfaces

When using Persistence structures like Hibernate, JPA, etc. on the server side, what are the common methods for transferring data between client and server? Are there existing design patterns for the same?

Thank.

I do not know about templates, but I know in design, using, for example, EJB3 with JPA, that he does not recommend passing JPA objects to the client via remote EJB, since proxies remain and can generate a lot of useless network traffic. You better separate your entities or provide objects of simple value to the client.
