Customize iPhone Orientation

I am making an iPad application and I need to force portrait orientation to several parts of the application. I used the undocumented API "setOrientation" and the application was rejected. Is there a documented way to do this?

I'm sure Apple only accepts iPad apps that work in any orientation. I heard that they are pretty strict about this and really push the idea of "there is no right way to hold on." Therefore, if you do not have a good reason (for example, for some games), you may have to find a way to make your user interface work in the landscape.
