Common CMS Architecture

I know this is a strange question to ask, but I would like to know if there is any documentation / blog article there that explains the architecture of the website content management system? In particular, I am interested in learning more about how widgets are implemented.

I don’t remember which system I saw this on, but in the "page layout view" he had the opportunity to allow the end user to select the widget (thumbnail gallery, contact form, etc.) from the list and drag it to user areas of the page.

I know this is not a programming issue, but please, I can ask for advice / feedback.

Thank!
