I am planning a summer coding project for myself. I work with a lot of MIDI and do a lot of it. I know this is an old technology, but it works with a lot of music equipment / software, so in my eyes it is still viable. In any case, I have never worked with writing drivers or anything else, so I donβt know where to start.
So, if I have MIDI data that is already sent over the local network to the server (I know how to do this part), what steps will the server need to send these received messages to the emulated MIDI device, which then could access music software and so on? Also, what is required to send MIDI data back over the LAN, which will be received by the device that originally received the message?
I am not looking for a very specific solution. In fact, I'm just trying to come up with a game plan right now, and I need to figure out where and what to look for.
