There is always an alternative to the poor person by simply loading individual baykion frames as .gif / jpg / png and displaying them in javascript sequentially. It would be terribly terrible to use bandwidth and memory, and, of course, no sound, but it (somewhat) mimics the video being played.
Of course, on Windows platforms you can use ActiveX and / or embed a media player, as well as play avi / wmv files without even touching the flash.
