Running a .net application over a network

I need to enable a .NET application to work through a network resource, the problem is that it will be on the network resources of clients, and therefore the path will not be identical.

I had a quick look at ClickOnce and publishing options in Visual Studio 2008, but this requires a specific location for the network resource - and I assume that this place is stored somewhere when it does its job.

At the moment, work is being done with the old VB6 application and therefore get around all these security problems, but this application is poorly written and almost impossible to support, so it really needs to go.

Is it possible for a domain controller to be configured to run this particular .NET application? Any other options would be welcome, as I want this small application to be very business critical.

I have to say that client networks are schools, and therefore they are often blocked, like client machines, so manually adding exceptions for each client machine is a big no.

Sorry, I forgot to mention that we are limited to .NET 2.0 at the moment, we plan to upgrade it to 4.0, but this will not happen right away.

The problem is the security associated with the .Net infrastructure. Unfortunately, I do not have much experience in this area, but perhaps one of these links will help:
