If your goal is to determine if you have an Internet connection, the solution is much more complicated than the equivalent of sending a ping. BlackBerry is not a regular IP-connected host like your regular PC, and therefore has many different basic vehicles that you can use to connect to something over the Internet. These include:
- WAP 1.0 (legacy transport, HTTP only)
- WAP 2.0 (carrier proxy, usually HTTP, Socket sometimes)
- MDS ( BES)
- BIS-B ( RIM, BB).
- TCP ( , , APN- )
- Wi-Fi ( )
