How do I ping a server in J2ME / BlackBerry?

How to ping a server in J2ME / BlackBerry using java? This seems basic, but I cannot find it in javadocs. Thank.

If your goal is to determine if you have an Internet connection, the solution is much more complicated than the equivalent of sending a ping. BlackBerry is not a regular IP-connected host like your regular PC, and therefore has many different basic vehicles that you can use to connect to something over the Internet. These include:

  • WAP 1.0 (legacy transport, HTTP only)
  • WAP 2.0 (carrier proxy, usually HTTP, Socket sometimes)
