How to keep GPL license when changing Script

Answering my question , I came across this GreaseMonkey script , which automatically converts currency values ​​to a web page. I would like to change the script for my specific case, and I want to know how to change the metadata block to recognize the original author of the script and respect the (letter and spirit) GPL. Can anyone advise?

I would like to contact the author of the script. He can accept this change and tell you how he wants to perform the attribution, and so both of you can decide on the availability of the source.
