What gives me a tool similar to Jasper Reports / report generator?

Good, so I need to create very complex reports from my database.
If I do this with SQL, the query itself will be complicated, and I will have to manipulate the results a bit later, at the code level.

These tools may not necessarily save you a lot of time writing SQL, but they will give you a nice, clean presentation of the data for your clients.

When it comes to writing a request, they won’t give you much. Some of the Business Intelligence tools (though not one of the open sources that I know of) give you the infrastructure for point and click requests. The developer still has to do the difficult work of setting them up, especially for complex queries in order to ensure that the data is simple enough for the user.
