I have problems inserting and retrieving dates because client servers do not work in the same culture as my developer server.

You can find out about the currently configured language using this:

SELECT @@language

and you can also check this:

EXEC sp_helplanguage

It will show the available languages, as well as what date formats, etc. This is mainly the contents of the system catalog table sys.syslanguages.
