Unable to connect to local IP address in OSX

I am trying to connect to a web server that runs on my Mac OSX 1.6. I can connect to it locally using http://127.0.0.1:8888/myapp , but when I try to connect to it using the local IP address of my computer ( http://192.168.1.15:8888/myapp IP shown below) from the same computer (or another on the network) with which I cannot connect. I can check the LAN IP.

I tried adding IP forwarding to my router for port 8888, but that did not help. I checked and the OSX firewall is disabled.

Can anyone guess what else blocks the connection?

BTW - I think it was a user error. I think I probably ran GWT in host mode with the Firefox plugin. There was no web server running or listening on port 8888, so it did not appear!
