Xcode + Perforce: it often shows me a spinning wheel for no reason! What can I do?

While working on an Xcode project, I continue to get a spinning wheel when switching files, scrolling, searching, entering, debugging, deleting breakpoints, moving from another application, or saving. This also happens before compilation, but it usually happens from time to time for no apparent reason.

This is the second time it started in an Xcode project, and it made me crazy. This completely breaks my work flow to wait for the spinning wheel to go away (2-5 seconds). What could I do to ...

  • find out the cause of the problem?
  • solve the problem of?

UPDATE: I upgraded to Snow Leopard, installed Xcode 3.2, and in the meantime upgraded the Perforce server to 20092. The problem is much less noticeable if not completely gone.

More: When a project is small, everything is very smooth with Xcode and Perforce. My two projects eventually ran into this spinning wheel problem after about 4 weeks of operation. This happened only with these two projects. They consist of about 1000-1200 files in the original control, most of which are assets. The problem arises even if I manually go through the whole project in Perforce. The problem will disappear when I copy the project directory and work in a copy that is no longer under source control, or if I create a branch in Perforce and work in the branch (under source control).
