Drupal: how to upgrade the current project website to dev version?

Can you help me understand how I can deploy and develop a Drupal site?

Suppose I developed a 1.0 version of the Berty & Frank website. I copied everything to my production server, and now it is alive and kick. The site is already filled with content and is growing.

I am invited to add additional features to the site. Now I am experimenting with how I can implement them in the dev version. I create / delete content types, fill the created nodes with demo data to see how they look, etc. Now I have found a way, and I want the upgrade site to be created in the same structure as my version of dev Now. How should I do it?

Is this the only way to manually make every change I made in the dev version?

I would study the Aegir project for the future management of your site. It allows you to clone a site and then upgrade the site to a new "platform", which could be the next version of Drupal or another Drupal system (such as OpenAtrium).

More can be found on the aegir wiki .

You can export / import views and content types, but a lot of settings, etc. stored in db. This gives you two options.

  • - , dev. , , , db.
  • - , .
  • , , db dev live db . .., .

Subversion , ( , , , ).

For changes to the database, I did not find anything better than just tracking my changes (usually adding / modifying CCK fields) and making the same changes to the production database. I also regularly upload my production base, so the developers and the productions have almost the same content. This helps to minimize confusion.
