Resources for creating editors / software interfaces more like games

In this gigantic modeling program that I am writing, I am developing a user interface and writing a mini editor.

I would like to design the interface so that it looks very much like a computer game (almost a command and possession). Does anyone have good resources on articles / books / links from cognitive psychology, programming, or HCI on how to create interfaces as "gaming"? A.

I don’t know if this is too theoretical, but I find an article by Alex MacLean inspiring in this regard. Another resource that called my attention was Fluxus
