Oracle Threads and Processes

Here: http://download.oracle.com/docs/html/A95907_01/diff_uni.htm#1077398 I found that streaming is used on Windows Oracle and the process on Unix. Why is this so?

What more, there are many Oracle processes http://www.adp-gmbh.ch/ora/concepts/processes/index.html regardless of the system.

Why is the journalist and writer db implemented as processes ... and the request is executed using threads (windows) or processes (unix).
