How does Xcode memory leak detection work?

How does the Xcode Instrument Leak find out if an object is a leak or something has not yet been released? I'm new to Objective-C, the leak tool detects a code leak that I'm working with. But the code looks like a sound to me. So just wondering how much can I trust this tool?

"leak" as an object that is still selected, but your application no longer has a link pointing to this object. Since you no longer have the link, you will not be able to free the object, so this will be a leak.

Because the leak (1) man page says:

- , , . , , , malloc. , , ,       . ,      , , malloc, . , , ;       , , , , free()

ObjectAlloc .
