Send signals via USB using cocoa?

Just wondering if there is an “API” for sending signals via a USB cable to the device using the Apple cocoa programming language, so I could include it in the application?

Is it much more complicated than a few commands, or do I need a library?

I have no experience communicating with an external device, so any help is appreciated!

You will need to read IOKitto make USB on OS X. There are cross-platform type libraries, such as libusb, which may also come in handy. Which device do you want to use?
