Java -verbose: gc Effective Effects?

Just wondering if including a detailed GC can affect application performance.

I think this is not the case.

I know that turning on a detailed GC can output fair bit data, and was it interesting to really affect performance?

Everything that is output to the file / console will carry some I / O overhead. Taking into account an additional couple of ms delay for each garbage collection event can certainly affect performance.
