What happens if ViewState Disabled

Question

I have a great application that just uses a few pages of ViewState.

I want to know what happens if I turn off ViewState in MasterPages and turn it on on pages that really use it.

The content of the ViewState is too large in my application and causes an increase in page size. I want to reduce page size with disabling ViewState, is this a good solution when I reaaly not using ViewState?

And, if I turn off the ViewState, will my application work as well as if the ViewState was turned on?
