Sudden overuse of memory

I have a problem where my application works fine for several hours, but then suddenly increases the amount of memory used (in minutes) until it works. If we minimize the application while increasing memory usage, the memory goes down and remains in place for some time. This seems to be very inconsistent. Any idea how to fix it / what could be the reason?

There are many tools available to help you detect such a problem. Try ANTS Memory Profiler or WinDbg + SOS .

ANTS allows you to take pictures and compare them. This will help you determine what the extra memory is.

WinDbg allows you to check a bunch. Team! Dumpheap is useful. Look at an unexpected number of instances. To check why objects are not returned by the GC, use the command! Gcroot. Take the booty to the Tess blog for more information on WinDBg + SOS.
