How to integrate a live video into a website?

I have a client who wants to display live 24-hour footage on their website to demonstrate progress in a number of major repairs that they are doing.

I looked at IP cameras and, frankly, it looks like the most logical technology to use, but not sure if I missed something. Is it possible to put a direct channel directly from the camera to their website (possibly via iFrame)?

The website will receive quite a few hits, but nothing massive, so I think that a regular broadband connection on each site should give them enough loading capacity to take it off.

Am I approaching this from the right direction? Is there anything I should consider before recommending a solution to a client?

Yes it will work. Most IP cameras will provide a JPEG motion stream, which is actually just a collection of JPEG images. This allows you to determine what frame rate you want to send to the site.

Providing an iframe with some javascript to update JPEG at the desired frame rate would be an easy solution.
