Distributing sharepoint default.master?

We have a large collection of MOSS 2007 sites that require a piece of javascript added to them. I edited, registered, published and approved this change in default.master, and the change was reflected in the root site, but not one of the sub-sites.

I'm a little nervous to use “Reset all sub-sites to inherit this setting on the home page” in the site settings, since there are so many sub-sites, but I'm not sure if I have any other option? All sub-sites only show default.master in their gallery of the main page, but this is not the version that I just changed.

Thank!

To get the JavaScript part on each page, using the add-on control is better not to change the default.master modification, since it will also work with modified master pages (if they obey the rules for including the "AdditionalPageHead Delegate"

See my blog post on How to Enable Default Download Completing a restart in WSS 3.0 using the AdditionalPageHead delegate as an example

You need to check the "owners" of the sites to know what is going on. In most organizations, there are not many people with the required level of permissions and the skills to make changes to the main page of the site.

Choosing to replace child master files will completely replace them.
