Renaming folders in TFS

I have a folder in Team Foundation Server with several subfolders:

  • candidates
    • beta1
    • beta2
    • rc1
    • ha

I want to transfer three of them to a new folder:

  • candidates
    • nonexistent
      • beta1
      • beta2
      • rc1
    • ha

Each folder contains tens of thousands of files of various sizes. These are all branches of another folder. I do not have them in my working folder, but they are under the mapped folder.

The Rename option is grayed out in TFS. When I try to rename beta1to defunct\beta1, the TF command says:

The item $ / blah / candidates / beta1 may not be found in your workspace.

I tried to get one file under beta 1, but this does not fix it.
