How to back up a Wordpress site to be restored after a clean install

My Wordpress blog seems to be hacked and now blogs are not saved, and any changes I make, such as comment approval, have no effect. I am trying to backup my site in order to remove wordpress and perform a clean reinstall. I want to create a backup so that when restoring the site it appears with everything that was before: messages, images, links, colors, comments, themes, pages, etc. I have already successfully maintained the MySQL database. I get it. One way to cleanly install a new version of Wordpress, but not to lose your site, is to use the Wordpress export feature, as John mentioned.
